OUR team 2023-2024
The UTEFR team includes over 30 active responders, with training ranging from Standard First Aid to Paramedics. Altogether, we have over 100 members in our organization who make this team possible.
JH Han - Executive Director
Hey everyone! My name is JH and I am a Health and Disease Specialist student with a minor in Immunology. I joined UTEFR in 2019 as a responder and supervisor. I previously served as UTEFR's equipment director (2019-2020) and internal director (2022-2023). I have extensive experience in prehospital care, especially in suburban settings working on one of the busiest Ski Patrol teams in Canada which received over 3500 calls over the winter season. Outside of first aid, I can be found flying small airplanes, sailing, or playing with my dog (Lady) all over Toronto.

Matthew Bernert - Internal Director
Hello! I’m Matthew Bernert and our current Internal Director at UTEFR. With this coming academic year, I will be in my final year of undergrad at UofT and will be completing my major in Health & Disease and a minor in Immunology and Physiology. At present I am certified in SFA+BLS however this May I will be training to become certified as an EMR! I love all things related to medical sciences, PC building, video games as well as outdoor venturing, and will most certainly make you cringe with my dad jokes (I’ll let you be the judge of those).

Howell Fang - Training Director
Hey guys, my name is Howell and I’m a fourth-year undergraduate student specializing in Health and Disease. I am a Primary Care Paramedic and AEMCA licensed to practice in both BC and ON and am excited to serve as UTEFR’s Training Director again this year. Currently, I work in the private sector providing pre-hospital and event medical care as well as in the public sector in the clinic. I’ve been involved in pre-hospital medicine for over five years now and have been in love with it since day one! In my time off, I enjoy travelling the world, film photography, shooting guns, and jumping out of airplanes.

Hamna Ammar - Communications Director
Hey everyone! My name is Hamna and I am a fourth-year Health & Disease and Animal Physiology student here at UofT. I joined UTEFR in 2022 and am currently certified as an Emergency First Responder. I was an active responder in my high school’s first aid team for three years where I dealt with many minor injuries. I have experience responding to sport events such as beach volleyball tournaments and ice hockey games. I'm originally from Vancouver and in my free time, you can find me in the gym or walking mindlessly on mountains, trails, and sometimes downtown Toronto at night. I'm super excited to attend lots of events and serve as your communications director this year!

Kaitlyn Nitta - Finance Director
Hey guys, my name is Kaitlyn and I am a third-year student at UofT, double majoring in Human Biology and Physiology with a minor in Immunology. Throughout my life, I’ve visited the Emergency Room at least once a year, which sparked my passion for first aid and treatment. I am originally from Vancouver where I received Emergency First Responder training and participated in my high school’s First Responders program. Now, I am eager to obtain my Emergency Medical Responder certification to improve my level of care. I look forward to collaborating with the upcoming exec team and members and hope to gain more hands-on experience.
